Olive tree

I have a 6ft standard Olive tree, on the new shoots there is a white fluffy substance like cotton wool. Any one know what this is?? doesn't appear to be causing any problems to the tree.

It reads like mealy bug, aka woolly aphid. If so get rid of it (the mealy bug !!) as quickly as you can and find a better place for the tree to stand. The presence of this pest suggests that the tree is poorly ventilated and perhaps too warm - during the winter. If it isn't in the garden it should be in a cool well-ventilated area such as an unheated greenhouse or conservatory

Steders, as a p.s. to my previous posting, your olive tree would be better off as a permanent feature outdoors, in the sunniest, warmest spot you have to encourage fruiting, however if you are in an area susceptible to frost, you need to protect it when said frosts are forecast. If your area has heavy frosts or a generally cold winter then you need to make it movable.
