This might sound stupid but here goes. The neighbour opposite me has an extractor fan in their window with a metal piece in the middle. When the sun is strong it refelcts off the metal and into my living room. At times the reflection is right on the arm of my sofa. Apart from being annoying could this be a potential fire hazard? I don't want to approach my neighbour if I'm just being silly.

Reflected sunlight isn't going to set fire to your sofa. If you used a magnifying glass with direct light from the sun you could do it. Put your hand on the reflected light, does it burn your hand?

you could ask them to paint the metal piece with some metal paint so as to reduce the reflection.
