The best way to kill bamboo is to drown it. Bamboo does not live for long if it's soaking in water. One thing however that you might consider...You can donate the Bamboo to study groups such as the Horticulture club at a College, and most probably you will even get some students to dig it up. The other option is to dig a trench around it and place a rhizome barrier so that it doesn't keep running, which sounds like the problem you are having. If you do choose to donate it, contact me and I will do the necessary. Must be in the Northern California are within 30 miles North or South of SAn Francisco.
How the hell do you drown bamboo? It might be 15 feet high. If you just mean the roots, if it's in the UK it would be dead by now anyway on that basis.

kill it off? the local garden centre sells pots of it 15-30 a time - i'd buy a few potting doofers (large ones) pot clumps of the bamboo and flog em off!
dont try to drown it try the opposite as they cant cope with drying out. but i would try to off load them onto friends or a local gardening society. dont try this if the bamboo is Sasa or Psuedosasa and you soon wont have any freinds left!
