How can I preserve....

the shine on my lamp. This table lamp is highly ornate and made from brass and copper and it tarnishes within a couple of weeks. To clean the lamp takes about 2 hours and Im wondering ,can anyone recommend a way of preserving the polished finish. Ive thought of a lacquer or something like that ,any suggestions?Oh I did try rubbing it very hard and no the genie didnt appear lol
