How does one sharpen scissors?

Use a fine file or sharpening stone to file/grind down the flat edge at a slight angle to the flat "working " side of each blade, so that you reestablish a sharp corner on each blade.If necessary tighten the pivot screw, to maintain close contact between the two blades (if they are riveted, tighten the rivet by striking the head of the rivet with the ball end of a hammer against a solid, firm surface)

Try 'cutting' the neck of a glass bottle for a few minutes! It's worked for me!
