We are planning on building some decking in our garden. at the moment we just have grass. How deep do we have to dig to make a solid base, and is filing it with hardcore ok???

unless its a really small area or is on soft ground all you really need to do is make sure the area is level. Build a sturdy framework and then add the decking. The spread of weight will stop any movement. Keep it simple!
