silicone sealant

I am resealing around my bath with silicone>
I have removed as much of the old silicone as I can, carefully using a single edged blade etc.

I have bought special silicone remover solutions in the past but they don't work and are very expensive.

Can anybody advise me as to whether there is an ordinary liquid (surgical spirits, turps etc) that would remove this silicone residue but not cost the earth.

Once silicone is cured (dried) its really had to remove if white spirit hasnt shifted it (together with a lot of elbow grease) you could try that 'Sticky Stuff Remover' that says it removes chewing gum n stuff.
Im sure tho that a few remaining bits wont affect the result of applying new sealant.
Tip: almost fill the bath with water so that the gap is at maximum before putting on the new silicone and leave the water in till its set, if you dont the first time you run the bath it might move away from the wall and take the sealant with it.

I persevered with the surgical spirits and a lot of elbow grease and it came away in the end.
Thanks for reminding me about filling the bath, so as to get a stronger seal.
