technical question for gasman

hi gasman came across a problem we've not had before and wondered if you had any ideas. boiler concerned is a heatline condense c28. (no instruction books with it as usual) no hot water or heating. on hot water the pump runs but nothing else, on heating nothing runs at all. took the wires off the fan, connected the fluke meter and had 240 v so assumed the fan had failed. fitted new fan but boiler still dead. still had 240v at the fan wires so had to assume they had sold us a duff fan. took both fans and wired them up to the mains via a 3pin plug and both fans worked a treat. fitted the old one back onto the boiler and still nothing. we then managed to get the fluke meter onto the connecting pins on the fan with the wires still attached and there was no voltage there. so we had voltage at the wires when off the fan but when you put them back on the fan theres no voltage. rang heatline technical who were next to useless and he admitted that it made no sense to him. were now thinking it cant be anything else but the circuit board but we've already laid out 120 quid for a fan they wont take back and dont want to get lumbered with a 150 quid circuit board too.

any ideas mate?

Hi Rob, Only just found this question sorry.

Is the air pressure switch over-riding the fan or the silicone tubes or venturi blocked? if not then i agree it sounds like the PCB to me. Can you not test the board with the multi-meter to test it out ? Or if not dont you know an electronics guy to test it out for you. I always make sure i am 100% happy that it is the board at fault before i buy a replacement as you will know they are non returnable. But you should be able to return the fan minus a handleing fee my local supplier lets me anyhow ! good luck with it. Darren
