Weaning my cat

My cat had a kitten and she is now 6 weeks old. We want to keep the kitten but will she be a nuisance to her mother? Is it best to give the kitten away or should we keep it?

i always maintain it's nice to have more than one cat. A few
years ago my cat had one kitten, at the time i could not
afford two pets so she went to a kind and loving home. My
mother cat did not show any signs of stress at not having
her around anymore. its up to the individual to make the
decisions wisely, taking into account your personal circumstances. Today I have two cats who are great company for one another, especially when they have to go
to the cattery once or twice a year when i'm on holiday.
It's up to you.

If you decide you want to keep the kitten, then keep her. I have a mother cat (she was a pregnant stray when I took her in) and I've kept 2 of her kittens, who are now 2 and a half years old. They all get on great together - in fact, they're very fond of each other and now I wouldn't dream of separating them. They even get on reasonably well with the two old ladies I've had for 10 yrs and who accepted Mum and the kittens without too many problems.

keep the kitten with the mother, they will always look out for out another, the bond is there. pls dont part them unless absolutely necessary, we had mother and son and she always waited till he came back at night before going to sleep and she would wash his face too.

You probably won't find out how well mum tolerates her off-spring until kitten is about 6 - 8 months old & starting to behave more like an adult.
I know that while my Bengal girl enjoyed having her kittens around until they were about this age but, she was very pleased when they finally went to their new homes & the house returned to just herself, her best friend the dog & grumpy cat!
We were just reaching the point of terratorial scent marking becoming more than just a very occasional problem - like twice a year. Much more time is now spent lying upside-down snoozing, chasing gumpy cat & nicking the dog's biscuits. lol.
