my microwave is filthy, and I need to find something to clean it, before my mother comes to stay next weekend. I've tried a couple of things, but nothing seems to remove the cooked-on splatters in it. Urgh! The outside is clean, it's the inside that needs sorted, but I'm worried about scratching the metal. Any suggestions of what I could use?

Kim and Aggie put a bowl of water with a slice of lemon and zap it. The steam from the water softens everything up and they just wipe and the lemon gives it a nice smell.

I don't know how long they zap it for, I guess maybe 5 minutes and see?

thanks so much, guys! I should have cleaned it more often, and now it's in such a mess. If K&A say lemon, then lemon is what I'll try. The microwave was a gift from my mother, and I don't want to use wrong products on it and end up ruining it. Thanks again!!

If you haven`t got lemon juice, put 1/2 a cup of vinegar & 1 cup of water in a microwaveable glass or ceramic bowl, boil on high for 5 mins or 10 if really encrusted! The smell of vinegar quickly disappears. Just wipe clean afterwards.
