Just moved into a 1940s house with a bit of a retro toilet in it. The existing loo seat has seen better days so i would like to replace it, but it has to fit the existing toilet and so must be octagonal. any help appreciated!

There are companies that will make a custom-built replacement seat for you, but it wouldn't be cheap. Find one such here.
Try your local arctectual salvage yard
(sorry if wrong spelling)
or there always Ebay.
but as it's unusual its not going to come cheap anywhere.
have you thought about refurbishing the old one, I m sure no matter what state its in it could be revamped

Thanks folks!
I may be too late, but you need www.brokenbog.com ! They have hundreds of toilet seats in stock in all manner of shapes, sizes and colours, not to mention baths, basins, bidets and indeed bogs. I should know, I work there!
