I've been skiving today. Don't tell the boss!
(Jayne is self employed, so the boss is already on to her ... damn)
I pretended I was working away from home this morning, and went to a wine tasting with winebuyer. I've come a bit of a cropper coz I got a bit p*ssed and I've had to ask a friend to go and get my car. I know they're gonna take the pee tonight coz I got caught out.
Thing is, I just couldn't do that spitty thing. It seems a bit gross. I just swallowed the lot (as they say, ha ha, yeah yeah). Obviously, by lunch time, they were all chatting sensibly and I was trolleyed.
But I am now an authority on (consults notes) New World Sauvignon Blancs and Unoaked Chardonnays. Tah Daah. Thank you
(takes a small bow)
I shall impress them all down at the bar tonight with my new expertise and knowledge (once they finish taking the pee).

(yeah right !)
Glad you were attracted by the title DarkM. Bit predictable really, but I couldn't resist it.
Don't know why I took the car this morning. Would you like to come to a wine tasting? Yep, I'll drive there ... It was always going to go wrong. My friend's got to fetch it from Gatwick!

These were unoaked Octy.
A lot of people have a resistance to Chardonnays because they associate them with that stiffling oakiness, partly due to the Australians adding oak chips to the barrels, rather than relying on the oak from the barrels themselves (oh god, jayne has started talking b0ll0cks already)

Are you plagiarising Gilly Goulden or summink??
Naked Chardonnay is any chardonnay that has never touched oak. These are also typically chardonnays that havent gone through malolactic fermentation which converts malic acid to lactic acid which will reduce the overall acidity.
This gives typical chardonnays a buttery characteristic.
You cant knock a combination of nakedness and butter, even if you are not slightly tipsy. No wood (oak) or gym shoe undertones required.

Sauvignon blancs are often too gooseberryish for me, expecially New Zealand ones. They sell very well, though. I like my chardonnays buttery though not overoaky; unoaked seems... well, a bit naked sometimes. But it depends on the grower. Do you find the wines better when grown on the north side of the vineyard, jayne?
