Dying rosemary bush

hi there hope someone can help, i have a rosemary bush in a pot on my balcony last year it was not doing too bad this year it has all gone brown but some green patches on the bottom what can i do it is fair sized plant and would be a shame for it to die.

Keep in mind that Rosemary is a Mediterranean plant of origin and does best when conditions mimic that geographic area. It won't tolerate freezing temperatures. If it froze over the wnter, it will be difficult for it to recuperate. Barring that, Rosemary is also somewhat demanding as to watering habits. It doesn't like to be overwatered, i.e., standing in damp soil. It would be best to prune it severely back to any green growth showing and water about once per week thoroughly, (be sure the planter drains well through perforations in the bottom) but allow the soil to dry just as thoroughly before watering again... (it also requires lots of sunshine... 5 to 8 yours per day, if possible.) Best of luck!

In my experience rosemary often just dies back or dies altogether. Now would be a good time to take some cuttings to ensure you've a new plant if this one gives up. Just pull off some shoots where they join the main stem, (about 3") strip the bottom half of leaves, poke them into a small pot of compost & water them. You can keep them on a windowsill, make sure they're always damp but not soggy & they'll soon make roots & start to grow.

thanks guys for the advice will take both on i have just cut it back and will take some pulling from base. Much appreciated...
