plumbers dilemma
6 Answers
plumber A installed a shower, but sited it vertically -ie the controls under the riser ,so it makes the shower nozzle way too high,i wanted it sited with the controls to the right of the riser and this is what i told him, before he fitted it, he was adamant he was not moving it as "they are always fitted like that -i've fitted hundreds of showers " he then told me to forget it ,picked up his tools and walked off the job, without sealing the shower ,leaving the job unfinished.now i have to get plumber B to resite the shower and finish the job,my question is this: am i legally obliged to pay plumber A anything? i did give him the chance to rectify the problem but he refused

You should write to your plumber, advising that he has not carried out the work as per your instructions, and you are deleting the completion costs from his account. Send it Registered Posr, and keep a copy, in case theings get legal. Refuse to discuss the matter with him except in writing. Most dodgy tradesmen accept this approch as an occupation hazard, and they usually give up and move on to ripping off someone else, so you should see an end to this sorry buisness fairly soon. If he threatens to sue you, ask him to put in writing, and advise that all future correspondence will be by post only - and if he threatens you in writing, write back and tell him to go ahead - chances are he won't!
