please help my ivy is growing wild and i no longer want it - if i cut through the root with a saw what can i put on it to stop growing - my neighbour's ivy is coming into me and i want to stop it too - also it is growing up house walls which i certainly dont want - help, help, help,

I think there's a product called brushwood sk that's SUPPOSED to kill all pernicious weeds like ivy, mare's tail, ground elder and brambles. I dig things out before they get big. I love ivy as it provides autumn pollen for the bees and winter food for the birds.

i dont want it growing up my house walls as i heard it makes the house damp also the ivy is thickening and thickening now coming up from the wall into the middle of the garden - no way - i want it

sorry - i can dig this up as concrete tiles were cut around it so the roots are under my concrete ground

Well talk to your neighbour about their ivy, you can cut back wahatever comes through to you but shouldn't put weed killer on it. The stuff on your side, cut through the trunk low down and then after it has wilted, pull off what is on the walls then use a glyphosate weed killer on the new shoots DON'T be tempted to cut or pull them off, justkeep on spraying the glyphosate as it regrows, you will need to be patient, maybe take a year or two but it will work eventually

I sympathise...ivy is the devil to get rid of or even control

I cut mine down about 3" below soil level, applied SBK mixed with a drop of engine oil on the cut and covered it in a black polythene bag and soil about 4 years ago and no sign of it even now. I now have a beautiful Pyracantha growing near to where it was and its doing fine.
