why has the hot water supply to the bathroom taps become much lower than before the kitchen supply is fine (we live in a bungalow)

I doubt you have a pressure pump if you are in the UK. But it is not unheard of just rare. Most likely to be either worn tap washer that has come loose and jammed in the seat and is restricting the flow, or you have developed an air lock if you have a low pressure / gravity fed system that is.
