I have just been given some bone china, dont think its particularly expensive but is there an easy way to get an idea of the value?

Yes, search eBay, particularly the 'completed listings' and see how much they've sold for.

Are there any marking or name on the base? Make a note and pop into your lolal library and ask for a copy of Millar's collectables guide. If this brings up any sort of match it might be worth taking it along to your local auction house for an opinion, though thay do vary in how good they are
