Home phone no dial tone

I have NTL cordless phones. It stopped working, so I've done following, plugged in corded phone so phone line is working. Bought rep base,bought rep handset, disc all other phones, reset and reregistered main handset to base, replaced lead from base to phone line. Guess what? Still no dial tone! Phones will work as intercoms, but not rec or make calls. Losing the will to live, Please help!
