Throughout my house is painted magnolia, a few weeks ago we decided to re fresh the house by painting it over magnolia Silk. It looks worse now than before, some areas of the walls are really patchy and look horrible. We cant afford to have a painter in so my husband has been doing it himself. I have tried a patch on the wall with magnolia Matt and now it looks horrendous, I thought magnolia was magnolia so am very confused.
Hi KG................always use Magnolia that has the British Standard number BS08B15........................then it'll always be the same colour. Any differences or patches should then only be caused by the differing "suction" qualities of the background s
Builders mate is correct up to a point on BS numbers. However, if you mix say crown magnolia with dulux on the same wall you will get slightly different shades. The same will happen if you mix paint from a mixing machine & factory mixed paint off the shelf.....hence batch numbers on paint tins.
Silk paint tends to show-up every imperfection in the plasterwork, so I'd go for a matt finish.
