What is the difference between an Impact Drill and a Hammer Drill

We hardly use it because its noisy but it puts screws through soft timbers and manifactured boards without pilot holes (easily for its size) by hammering the screw in as well as turning.
Another name for a hammer drill is a precussion drill I think. (to confuse you more)
If your buying a drill buy makita, Im a kitchen fitter and they last years being used all day atleast 4 times a week.

Thanks for all your answers. And yes as I thought they are more or less all same things but with different names to confuse people.
Thanks Toleman � But I don�t thing I will buy Makita for two reasons. First of all I think they are for professionals as you said and second because they are very expensive as they are probably one of the best. I have just recently bought a bosch. I am only a DIYer with probably 10 holes per year.
