Hi, the element has just blown in my Belling (single) oven - and not for the first time I might add. As the oven is temperamental to say the least, I've decided to replace it with another brand. The thing is, when I pulled the oven out I noticed that it plugs into a standard plug socket at the rear of the oven. While investigating new models, they all appear to be hardwired. My question is, can a hardwired model be somehow connected to a standard electrical socket? Thanks!
im work with gas but do install duel fuel ovens and in my experience you follow the instructions in the manual that comes with the oven or you will probably invalidate your guarantee. usually fan assisted gas ovens pug into a std socket but if its got electrical heating elements as well then it has to be hardwired.
electric ovens should be hardwired, because you should have a electric ring main for the oven, and the cable is thicker, so they cant be plugged in, like a normal device.
i would consult a electrician if in doubt
and if your budget can stretch, i would reccommend a Miele oven, rather than a Neff, as there really is no comparison
Thanks again all. What options do I have when there's no dedicated ring main for the oven - just the plug behind it? As far as I can see, my options are:
1. Repair the existing oven (which because of the plug is probably incorrectly wired anyway).
2. Replace the oven and fit a plug to the power cable as before.
3. Rip it all out, install a ring main for the oven, replace oven/kitchen units??
Advice please!!!
