My fir tree is about two years old. Although it seemed to do well at first after about 6 months it started getting browner and browner. It has been carefully tended with the appropriate fertilizer etc. but is progressively getting more sparse. I have rubbed off the brown dead needles. Can anyone recommend anything to get it up and going again. I have two small Leylandi planted nearby and they are doing fine(4 months old).

Some fir trees 'look' ok but are slowly dieing as yours seems to be. If your purchased from a reputable source you could try contacting them although you should have done this after four to six months. Sounds as if it is a gonner now I am afraid.
