ok i know i shouldn't of,but i did!
defrosted(ish) the freezer part of the fridge/freezer with the screwdriver and mallet.... i know, don't shout at me,i'm in enough trouble as it is !..
well guess what? yup. put the screwdriver through a shelf, resulting in a hiissing snake effect..
What i want to know is..can i still leave the thing switched on till the new fridge/freezer arrives(already ordered one from catalogue, hopefully delivered in 3 days)

If your fridge and freezer have seperate ccoling circuits, the fridge will still work (as I'm assuming its the freezer you've knackered). If this is the case, switch off the freezer bit and the fridge should still work. However, nowadays most fridge freezers have common circuits and pump, so the fluid/gas could be being pumped out of the whole thing. You will soon know, as the fridge will start warming up and can even turn into an oven effect! If in doubt (and probably the best course of action anyway) switch the whole lot off and keep you perishables somewhere cool (garage?, shed?).
