Myself & my husband want to move from London to Devon. In order to do this, we will be selling our home & leaving our jobs. We will want to rent a house in Devon whilst we look for new jobs then eventually a new home. As we will not have jobs when we rent but will be in a position to pay the full tenancy (i.e 1 years rent) up front, will not having jobs hinder us in any way?

But just as a matter of interest, why do you wan to move to Devon and what sort of job would you be doing there? Reason I am asking is that we did exactly the same thing last year and from London moved to Exeter, only difference would be that we even bought a house there. But there is so much shortage of jobs in Devon that for a year I could not get a proper job. I at that time, was accountant with ten years experience. In the end we decided to sell the house again and moved back to London. Luckily we did not sell the house in London and instead let it out. Sorry do not mean to discourage you at all but just telling about my own experience. Oh yeah handy men are really in demand there, especially plumbers.

This does not sound too good. I have 25 yrs experience in Banking and have worked the last 3 yrs in Customer Relations. My husband is a warehouse manager and has 15 yrs experience as a sales rep for commericial business.
WE have wanted to move to Devon (north) for years now and am getting fed up with London life.
WE would not be doing this move for about a year and am just looking at all possibilities at the moment.

The trouble with N Devon is that it is still incredibly cut off. I know the N Devon link road has improved things up to Barnstaple, but the town and surrounding area is very dependent on tourism and agriculture. Great if one is thinking of retiring or one is a surfer because property prices compared to other areas are competitive. But they are low for a reason - few jobs. Suggest you seriously take a look at the type of services industries that have relocated to that area - there isn't much IMHO. Contrast that with Exeter and I know where I'd be looking. Huge investment and huge infrastructures been put in.
Exeter is where we spent a year, we managed to buy a lovely 4 bed house street away from my in Laws. Wife was happy and so was I as I really loved Exeter and still do. Perhaps sometimes later in the life with less worry about finances. Of course my story is different from yours. My children are still young (eldest 13) and with no savings to go through dry season. So decided to move back to London. But I do wish you very all the luck. And yes I will agree about Exeter what buildersmate said, huge improvement is going on.
