This has only been in for 1 year and appears to be rusting. Any ideas how to get rid of the rust and what is the best way to clean these?

don't know about the rust but I clean steel with a scourer, let it dry & then I take a cotton make up remover pad, put a tiny amount of either baby oil or olive oil and then go over the whole of the stainless steel section & leave it alone. It should have a very thin coating of the oil which will protect it, leave it looking smear free & easier to clean next time

The splashback cannot be of stainless steel or even chrome iron since both are non-ferrous and therefore
non-rusting. It must be made from ordinary mild steel
and treated or painted to protect it from rust etc. The
previous answer ie. scouring and light oiling is as good
a way as any to prevent rusting. The only sure answer is
to replace with a genuine stainless steel item which any
local sheet metal fabricating company can supply.
