Spiders....

I've just moved to a lovely new house, with a gorgeous garden and loads of trees at the back. My only problem, is i've noticed we seem to get a lot of spiders/small flies etc. Whilst Im not afraid of the spiders, they are just becoming a nuisance & the flies are tiny, seem to be attracted to, and die wherever I have a light/lamp! Could anyone recommend anything - someone told me that I can buy an electronic device which sends some sort of deterant via a noise not heard by the human ear?? I would prefer a deterrant rather than a spray if poss.

Go to any Garden Centre where they sell a devise which attracts flies and moths to their doom by electrifying them. The devise costs about �30.00 but works well.

I bought the item you talk about 2 in fact and to be honest I never really noticed a difference re spiders in the house, but I wouldn't say 100% no because I bought it fairly early on moving into a house so it could in theory have been worse without the device. Problem I had with the device is they do sometime effect small pests like mice and rats, problem with that is if you have small pets in the house like hamsters or guinea pigs it would drive them into an early grave.

The item basically sends out a noise that humans and large animals cannot hear but to a small insect it is a really annoy sound like a human tying to live in a house with a smoke alarm going off 24hrs you couldnt stand it and you would move house wouldnt you, so the spiders move outside or dont come in in the first place.

Mine were wall mounted, looked like a smoke alarm you can get ones that plug in and send signals all round the house through the house wires.

I have bought 'cheap' insect electric shock lights that are supposed to attract and kill flies but they never attract??

Best thing for flies are fly papers in the form of rolls (best) and sheets you hang up they look terrible but at the end on the day if the flys come inside that much and annoy you it might be right for you.

I have made my own fly screens with tenson rods and fine weaved nets, i either have one tension rod at the top and weight the bottom of the net to keep it from blowing open (good for doorways) or put tensoin rod top and bottom and sllde the net over each.

God I have just about had ENOUGH of all the giant house spiders we have at the moment.. I must have caught 15 in the last 3 weeks.. and last night one crawled right near my face on my pillow.. it was so big I could hear its bloody footsteps on my pillow.. I HATE THEM AND WANT THEM ALL TO LEAVE!!!!! Its driving me NUTS

I never understand people's fear and dislike of spiders. I'd rather have dozens of them and know they're doing their bit- eating bloody horrible dirty flies, than have a constant buzzing round my house.

All of you who moan about flies don't understand what it's like for people like me who are terrified of spiders, they reduce me to tears and there have been more big ones coming in the house in the last couple of weeks than I ever remember accepting that September is their time. Huge disgusting things that get into awkward places. I haven't gone in the utility room for a week cos i saw a big one that disappeared in there and likewise once it gets dark I'm scanning the lounge constantly when I should be relaxing.
I hate them.
