while sitting waiting to pull into ajunction i had three cars sitting behind me waiting for me to pull in a fourth car proceded to hit the car at the rear thus causing the other cars to hit the ones in front who,s at fault and who.s insurance pays

Do you mean there was a queue of 4 stationary vehicles at a junction and a driver failed to stop and ran into the back of the last vehicle in the queue?

If so, the driver who failed to stop is at fault and his insurance should bear the costs.

Ethel can be relied upon to normally come up with the right answer! However I thought I heard somewhere that if you are stationary, you should apply your handbrake. Therefore if a car went into the back of you, causing you to hit the car in front, you could be liable for the damage to the car in front if you did not have your handbrake on!
I may be wrong though!

I was in an accident whilst sitting stationery in a transit van.A van ran into the back of me shunting me and 2 cars in front of me too.its all about the speed of the vehicle thats moving as the stationery one even with handbrake applied feels the full force .
The rar vehicle is to blame but the cars companies mmay claim offf each other .Depends on the exact detail and the companies i would guess.

ethel is correct, this actually happenned to me, ie someone hit me up the jaxy hard enough to hit the car in front. the costs where all born by the initial impacter.

As far as I remember it starts at the back and each one holds the person that rear ended them is at fault. Like a knock on effect.. ( sorry for that )
