cracked nail - how to stop bleeding
5 Answers
This morning I had to stop a dog fight and managed to get my finger in the middle of it. My thumb nail has been pierced by a tooth right by the nail bed and it won't stop bleeding. It's a tiny hole and it's not heavy bleeding but everytime I put pressure on my thumb it starts bleeding again. It's not easy working without using both thumbs. I've changed plaster 3 times already today.
I recently had a tentanus so I'm not worried about anything other than stopping the bleed. Any ideas?

Have you bathed your finger using cold water?
Try and keep it dry after bathing.
Try and keep your finger elevated above the heart. It may mean keeping your finger in the air for a while but that should help stop the bleeding.
If it keeps bleeding you may need a trip to the docs hun.
Hope you get better soon :-).

Try and get some "Nu-skin" from boots or superdrug.
Its an alternative to plasters, basically its a liquid you paint on like glue, that covers over the affected area and seals it to keep it sterile and clean. In my experience it holds much better than a plaster does and is waterproof.
We swear by it in our house now.

Thanks for all your well wishing. Yes both me and dog are fine. It was my own dog who was trying to defend himself so I have no one to blame but myself for getting bitten. But rather me than my baby any day.
Jane - I couldn't help chuckled to myself when I read your advice about keeping it elevated. I could just imagine me sitting there giving the thumbs up to everyone :-)
It did finally stop bleeding and now that the swelling has gone down an bit I'm surprised at how small the puncture is compared to how much blood came out.
I'm definitely getting some of those "Nu-Skin" as they sound brill. I'm also thinking that they might help when the nail start growing out a bit as I can imagine it'll probably catch everything as there seems to be a little "hook" sticking up.
Once again, thanks for all your advice
