We are looking to get a new front door fitted, probably PVC. We have contacted various companies for ballpark figures but all of them insist on sending round a sales man to do a quote.
We have no idea what the cost of a new door is, can anyone let us know before we let a sales man across our hearth......
Having repaired many many PVCu doors I would not buy one myself. Go for a composite for value or hardwood for quality.
A local firm does composite fitted from 350.
A elderly relative was recently quoted 2000 by one national co. & just under 3000 by another for a new PVC door would you believe!!? A local chippie fitted a handsome wood, glazed one for 275. Don`t get ripped off.
Many thanks to everyone.
Having read the replies we cancelled the appointments with the major national companies and have our local chippie / joiner fitting a PVC front door and side back door for just under 1000 all in. We've used him before for carpentry work and know he is reliable and provides high standard work.
The only problem now is fielding the pestering calls from the companies we cancelled, wanting to re arrrange!!!
Don`t forget additional Chubb or other deadlocks on both, oh, & hinge bolts to stop pond life kicking them in on that side. A Yale "insurance approved" deadlocking latch lock is another good investment these troubled days.
