It is usual for a maturing dog to muscle up and look more toned and as long as you can still easily feel the ribs he is not overweight.
Please watch his diet and resist temptation to feed him too many extras. What some think is kindness is actually sending a dog to an early grave. Those owners who have those grossly obese dogs you see on TV should be fined for animal cruelty.
Hope you'll enjoy a long and healthy relationship with your Jack Russell, I grew up with one and she was my best friend.

Adult Jack Russells are typically anything from 6 to 8 kg.That's not really the answer though, because all that matters is that the dog is healthy. Some dogs are gluttons and will grab anything edible and bolt it down, for all the world as if they are starving to death! In the wild a wolf cannot guarantee a meal every day and takes what it can we it can. (Your Jack's excuse is that he's like his ancestors and he's following his instincts !) Just make sure he's wormed regularly. Don't let him eat just because he wants to. The vet who saw him will have said if he looked underfed or thin. With a JR, if you can easily feel his ribs he's fine.
