Painting the kitchen

Have recently painted the kitchen using kitchen paint, however the finish looks terrible! It was painted over a painted wall not bare plaster. It is as though the paint has not absorbed into the wall. It was focus brand. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can put this right?

You did the right thing by not painting bare plaster - you'd still be painting now if you had done that - it sucks up paint like it has never had a drink !

Have you let the emulsion dry properly or only just finished the decorating ? If you've only just finished, then see what it looks like tomorrow. You might have to give the walls another coat - it depends on what colour was underneath. Nothing wrong with the focus brand by the way, I've got a 5L can of theirs from about 10 years ago and I still use to touch up my hallway now and then !

Hi, you said that you used a kitchen paint, was it a emulsion paint or oil based like an eggshell finish. You say that the walls have not absorbed the paint which makes me think it may have been oil based and the new one is not. If this is the case you will need to give the whole lot a really good sanding down in order for the new paint to take properly. Then give another 2 coats as if you were starting again. If you could give a bit more information it may help to give you a better answer.
