Anyone ever moved from a city to the countryside? We've just accepted an offer on our house and plan to rent 300 miles away! We've talked about it for years, but now its a reality (and just a touch scary!) Would love to hear if anyone has done this, and how they fared!
i am sure you will love it ,people are more friendly . and a slow pace of life , depends on what you want , nightlife is low key , and revolves around familey , and eating , jumping on a bus , or train , even if its a mile away , im sure you will be made welcome . good luck .
That sounds really exciting and actually something my partner and i intend doing when we are no longer tied to work. I hope it all goes really well for you and you manage to make some good friends.
Well, we're still relatively young (mid thirties!) and have decided to just go for it! Can't bear the thought of city living for another 30 years, so we're making the break sooner rather than later! It is scary on so many levels, but I'm hoping it will be worth it!
We moved to Suffolk 20 years ago from London, it took about a year to get used to it but, what a difference it makes to your life, health and well being.
There are problems with crime every where in the UK, but in the countryside its not as bad as the big City's.
My decision to move away was a build up of a couple of events
Firstly....someone decided to use my pick up truck as spare parts and nick my back light, stereo and plastic cover within a week
Secondly..my kids school was overrun with foreign kids not speaking English and my kids coming home from school speaking Urdu, Turkish and Polish
Well, the buyers have already had our house surveyed and we're going to look at a rental this week, so it's full steam ahead! We're both country folk at heart and living in a city is wasted on us (hate shopping, clubbing, arty-farty stuff!) but it is a big step! Keep the comments coming and I'll keep you posted on our progress!
If its really rural and raw the pig-farming/swill/manure/flies could be horrendous. As commuting through narrow lanes full of sheep/cattle driven by obnoxious herder. Or driving behind a tractor at 15mph, driver wearing earphones and wont give way for next 10miles.
Dodging rabbits/pheasants/badgers/foxes/hedgehogs intent on hari-kari guts spread over the road and car bonnet.
Take it from me, JB, you can't beat living out in the countryside. Provided you're willing to become part of the community, then you shouldn't have any problems. The pace of life's slower, and you come to appreciate things that you probably never thought about, living in a city. What area are you moving to?
Elvis - I've been unhappy living in a city for many years, and have been dreaming of getting away for many reasons. The most pressing one being in work on a Saturday morning and hearing gunshots between rival gangs. I was in work - and the job description does not include dodging bullets!
Moving to North Cornwall - not too rural, but a real breath of fresh air! Flies, manure and whatever god given nastiness I can cope with - but urban gangs with no respect for life (let alone quality of life) I can no longer deal with.
That's terrible, JB - but i can't promise you won't hear gunshots out in the country - not usually connected with gangs of unwanted kids though! Best of luck in your new life. Cornwall's a lovely part of the country. x
obviouse you are going to get negitive replies , as same as positive . i would say go for it . thats my opinion only . but on the negertive side people will say , if only i had the opertunity to go for it . off to bed now , think my brain is overtaxed .:)
