Laminate Flooring question

I wish to fit laminate flooring in a front bedroom but the floorboards are very uneven, heightwise some are about 1/4 inch higher than others. Do I plywood the whole floor before I lay the laminate or would just a basic underlay do and should I glue it down? I don't want it to warp or creak. Any tips, thanks

If you can lay the laminate across (90 degrees to) the uneven boards and use a type of underlayment that looks like a foam material, it'll be OK. The floor won't squeak, since squeaks are almost always caused by boards working against nails.(Do make sure the underfloor is sound and all nails are solidly in place). Don't glue the floor. Laminate that is to be glued will clearly give instructions for that. The beauty of laminate is that it is designed to float, if you will, on the supporting underfloor and will, therefore conform to minor imperfections. One caveat; assure that you don't have an edge or end seam directly over one of the uneven edges you describe. Best of luck!
