Any tips on how to remove a water based paint - I have scrubbed with water and most of the colour has gone, but there is still some colour left. Any suggestions gratefully received.

meths will dissolve most emulsion paint,so provided the meths itself doesnt stain, try rubbing with a suitably moistened cloth.
Perrier or other sparkling water is great for carpet stains.
keep it wet and hire a rug doctor from homebase and that will lify it out i am sure x
