A bashed-up German car has been parked selfishly, but not illegally outside our house, and has not moved for nearly 2 months. The police say there's nothing they can do, but I would like to contact the owner to ask if it could be moved so it doesn't take up 2 precious spaces. How do I track down the owner of a German car. It probably belongs to a student, who is not allowed to use it in term-time. If so, maybe the parents could provide an address over here. Liz Budd
I often see notices on cars, that say that the car appears to be abandoned and that, if it is not claimed within a certain period of time, the Council will remove it. You could try and report an apparently abandoned car to your local Council. Good luck.
The car hasn't been dumped. It spent 8 weeks here in the autumn and then disappeared. Now its here again and will now doubt leave at the end of term. Meanwhile, my question was - how does one track down foreign registration numbers?
How about trying the German Consulate? You say it belongs to a student, if you have an idea of which college it is, you could try the college. However, I still think reporting it to the Council as abandoned is the simplest option for you because once the owner/keeper sees the notice on the car saying that if it is not claimed, it will be removed, they will probably hurry up and move it - and if they don't, the Council will. Either way you get what you want.
