How do you test a fluorescent light fitting for faults?
My twin-bulbed fitting in my fish tank has stopped working and as both bulbs are not illuminating I am assuming the bulbs are ok. Have checked the fuse in the plug is ok, but where do I check next?

Looks as if you need new bulbs, if they are in a double fitting usually if one goes, so does the other.
Have they got a starter? This is a small cylinder, often white in colour that fits into the side of the metal lamp housing.

Here's one.

It is a bayonet type fitting and needs a little anti clockwise twist.

Usual symptoms of a starter failing is the tubes flash a few times upon startup before they illuminate fully.

You may get one at B&Q or a hardware store. The number on the side denotes the type you need.

Haven't found the starter yet- I'm assuming it's inside the casing which I'll have tio dismantle.
Check the ends of the light strips,if they are going a dark grey to black they need changing.
