my son punched his girlfriend of 4 years after he was hit by her on the head by his eye with a house phone ((where plates to eye socket are present))) . he caused her a split to her forehead - 3 stitches this was the first time he had ever retailiated and she was shocked. They have 2 beautiful children under 3 that were unfortunately present. she rang police and an officer attended the house - by which time her sisters and mum was with her. she didnt want to press charges but was told it was procedure so was encouraged by him to make a statement but omitted to say she had hit him first. Her sister rang my son to say he had to ring the police which he did he had to report to police station the next day - he did. In the meantime I was asked to meet her, her mum and sisters as they wanted to speak to me. I went and they said they love my son he is one of their family now and didnt want anything to come of this as they are aware of thei gf moodswings- -the gf said she wanted to drop charges and had been ringing police all day- whilst I was there the officer returned call - she told him that she wants to drop all charges and didnt want it to go any further as this was out of charactor. He wasnt best pleased and told her she would be wasting police time and justice needs to be done but arranged to go around to her house . my son was informed by solicitor to say no comment to every question which he did and was then charged with ABH and bailed with conditions to appear in court on 8th. I have been told officer went back to the house and gf signed to drop charges so why does he still go to court? no witnessess -her family have said they want to write letters to support him in court. can they do this- how? he not allowed contact with her she has rang him so he has had to refuse to talk to her- I am at my wits end cos with any conviction he loses his job and wont be able to provide for their children in the way they are used to. can anyone advise what might happen?

The law is there to punish those who break the law, not so the police can press or drop charges on the whim of a member of a public.
There is a very famous case that set the precedent - all the adults were consenting to the harm but the police found videos. This was enough to convict enough though no complaint had ever been made to the police.
Your son has a solicitor. He should take his advice and also inform his employer. Hopefully your son will be able to provide character witnesses and his girlfriend can say she provoked him beyond all endurance by hitting him first and verbally abusing him.
The girlfriend could help by seeking anger management treatment as it seems she has issues.

What a guy! Wish he were my boyfriend!
She was a very silly girlie wasn't she, for provoking him beyond all endurance. She deserved to get thumped.
For christs sake!
What a stupid cow for being such a b1tch to him in the first place and what a a$$wipe he is for retaliating!
Do they live in a trailer park?

My ex wife stabbed me with a carving knife and hit my across the head with a large glass ash tray and split me ear open and nearly knocked me out, I walked away from her and punched a wall and broke my hand but I never raised my hand to her or any other woman, they should both be prosecuted. I think it is totally unacceptable for any man to hit a woman, if he cant get away from her then he should restrain her but not hit back.
