Are there any heat / flame-proof paints that can be used to paint the inside of my fireplace

Yes there are.....i'm sure there will be some available in a normal tin, from either a DIY store or screwfix, but when I did mine I used a flame/heatproof paint from a spray can. Think I got mine from B&Q, but if you look for the brands that manufacture Hammerite etc. you should definately find one. Happy hunting!
