Isn't it interesting how the word "organic" has been bastardized from the original, "grown in the ground" (to use it's basic definition) to encompass nearly a whole page of synonyms?

Yes WBA - but under natural conditions, with no revolting poisons sprayed onto the stuff.

It originally, (before the tree hugging, lentil boiling, caftan wearing hippies got a hold of the idea), was simply "grown in the ground."
It was indeed - and STILL ought to be "simply" grown in the ground, methinks. : )

Yes, I agree Ice.Maiden.
I had an argument with some sandal wearing, weirdos a while ago about this. They, refused to believe this (surprise, surprise) & said it had always meant no chemicals. I even showed them an old dictionary showing the fact! I asked them what "organic" meant before chemicals. They got the hump & flounced off in a haze of incense smoke!

Contains Real Fruit...What other kind is there?
Selected produce...If it hasn't been selected, it's been rejected, and who's going to say they're selling that?
Etc, etc.
Organic was always a stupid term in this context.

It had already been applied in chemistry to mean a substance which included carbon. Most pestacides and poisons are organic compounds.
