Rattle from hot water tank

I have recently moved into a new house and have a gas boiler downstairs and a hot water tank upstairs.

At the end of the central heating cycle when the boiler stops, the hot water tank (or the associated pipes) let out an almighty shudder.

Does anyone know what this may be or how to stop it?

Thanks.

it sounds to me as though your hot water is boiling causing the pipes / boiler to vibrate or the hot water is going up the expansion pipework into the header tanks.

i strongly reccommend you call out a heating engineer to investigate.
