Anyone got experience of this? I looked at Audacity but hadn't a clue what to do! I would prefer if possible, to just plug in to USB port and that bit on cassette player. You'll note that I am a bit of nerd as I can only describe it as "that bit".

Or save yourself some grief and buy the CD version of your cassette cheap off ebay?
Er.. Home and Garden? Try 'technology' ;-)
Ive got Audacity and found the USB side of it is not a great sound but from phono to the mic input of your pc will work better and I didn't know if you know that tapes sound crap once you put them on CD anyways, as tapes have to put so much infomation on a short piece of tape that the quality is bad, do as Snags says and get the CD version of the music you require then you know that the quality will be excellent...
