Can anyone tell me how to fill cracks in walls. I think they are called settlement cracks and I have tried the likes of polyfilla and such but eventually they do reappear. Is there a permanent solution to this? Thanks in anticipation.
It can take up to a year for settlement if its a new build and these fine cracks are not covered in the snagging list. It should settle after a while, if its more severe contact your Builder.
You covered by an NHBC 10-year warranty?
just seen this Stompey..............assuming these cracks don't go right through to the outside...............take a bit of the plaster off on a crack, to see if the masonry underneath is also cracked in the same place...............
If the masonry is sound, then do I just plaster the crack and this will solve the problem? Is polyfilla the best thing to use or would you recommend something else? cheers
if the wall behind is cracked, then it suggests a bit of settlement has taken place over the (many) years. Nothing unusual in that.................just patch the plaster if it's not too bad - otherwise as beejay says......replaster the affected area.
The important thing to remember with settlement is that it isn't so important that it's taken place - that's quite usual (historic)............ but that it isn't still happening......... just keep an eye on it over time.............
