Fire chiefs have issued a chip pan warning to Northumberland.
It follows the loss of three lives in the County in the past 12 months as a result of chip pan fires.
"Chip pans are the most common cause of house fires in the United Kingdom, with around 12,000 chip pan fires every year, with 1,100 chip fires being considered serious.
These fires result in over 4,600 injuries, and 50 deaths per year. British Fire Brigades frequently issue warnings and advice, urging households to switch to a safer means of cooking chips."
I think you will find that all refers to chip pans (Open on the hob) rather than deep fat fryers, which are usually quite safe and have thermostatic regulation.
Deep fat frying is not the most healthy way to cook, but if you have a thermostatically controlled fryer, then it will not overheat, and will be quite safe, I would use sunflower oil personally, but vegetable oil is fine too
You're right cheekychops, they don't taste good! I see nothing wrong with using a fryer to make chips now and then, as long as you don't use it every day
Ive put the oil in but after reading the answers i'm to scared to turn it on, now what? Would anyone like to buy a brand new never used chip fryer. 1 day old.
AAhhhhhh lukey121 just heat it up and get your chips in. (just have a wet teatowel ready.....) I'll have load of salt and vinegar on mine and a bit of ketchup thnx!
