Mildewed Leather Jacket

How can I remove mildew from a black leather jacket? I guess it must have been damp when it was put away before the summer. My wife took it out of the closet today and it is covered with a greenish mildew.

you could try washing it with saddle soap, you can buy that from stores that sell saddle equipment i get it from barrats they sell camping gear and horse riding equipment i use it to wash leather settee down every 6 months,.you may have to do it twice but it should work, best of luck mullein

Hi Ezapf, I just noticed your question. I don't know how to get the mildew out, but we had a similar experience. You may find that the cause of the mildew isn't because the jacket was damp when put away, but due to a similar situation as ours. We discovered some leather shoes and handbags with mildew on them from our closet as well. A few weeks later I had to crawl under the house for something and discovered that there was a broken drain pipe to the shower and all the water was draining onto the ground in the crawlspace. The huge puddle of standing water below the closet is what caused the mildew on the leather goods. You might want to check areas of your house for water infiltration, especially if there are other leather goods with mildew.
