bogus gas man
1 Answers
about 9.15 this evening, a man knocked on our front door in one of those sleeveless yellow jackets. when we opened the door he said someone has reported a gas leak outside yr house, I need to come in and check yr gas and electric. it didnt feel genuine and there were no vans or flashing lights anywhere, just a small van further down the road flashing his headlights.
my husband said no u r not coming in, we r fine, and he said ok but if u smell gas ring the national grid.
after I went to my neighbour house and asked him if he had a gas leak, he told me no the man knocked on my door and said its outside the house, but he let him in to check the meters.
what puzzled me is the fact that he told my neighbour it was only a small leak and the small ones didnt matter when they were outside because the fresh air kills the gas, and then he went away.
somehow it didnt seem right, and I rang the police who came down to speak to me and agreed it had been a scam, the gas board or national grid would not leave a leak until the morning.
please be warned nice people that this is going on and please tell your friends and neightbours.
take care
