I'm replacing the floor covering in the living room but don't know whether to go for a new carpet (which the dog will blacken within a month) or oak flooring (which my daughter says is noisy and dusty)...........suggestions please?
I would go for oak flooring, dog hair is much easier to clean from that than from carpet, you could buy some floor wipes to clear up any paw prints he makes throughout the day.
Oak flooring everytime, looks nicer more practical and you can always add luxurious rugs for when you've got visitors etc.
Carpet is just a dirt collecting pain in the ar5e.
PMSL leggy thta is excellent but I don't think my macho littlle dog would go for that.....
den I mean tongue (calm down jj) and groove oak flooring the last estimate (without fitting) was 982.00
hi luxury - my home I moved into when I retired was built in the 1960's and has pine flooring which is not in good nick. I agree the modern lino looks good but has too many reminders of my childhood when it simply didn't.......
My old flat had pine, and once it had been professionaly sanded and 5 coats of varnish it looked stunning!!!
I would def. agree with everyone about the oak aswell if sanding down is not an option, shop around on the internet, get samples sent and go for it!!!
I did have a slight problem with one of the rooms we had in the house we're in now... the wood I'd sent for was 18/22 mm thick and I needed 14 mm so there was no 'step'....
As soon as I can afford it I am definitely going to get real oak flooring fitted throughout downstairs,it looks so much nicer than any carpet, there is also the added bonus to anyone with a lung condition like mine that there should be less house dust mites. The incidence of asthma in scandanavian countries is very low because they have mostly wooden flooring in their homes.
Go for hard flooring by all means, but oak can be really tricky. Unless you buy good quality stuff that has been dealt with properly and allowed to dry out properly, you can have all sorts of problems with it expanding/contracting - particularly if the room you are flooring has a minor damp issue or is exposed to lots of sun light.
ooh thanks barmaid - I've no damp problems (well the house hasn't) but do get a lot of sunshine into this room - I can see I will have to investigate thoroughly - this site I've found does have a 10 year warranty I think......
carpet a no no gets dirty .ive had wood floor does get marked very easy .my dog use to slip on the floor .i now have slate floor so easy to keep clean .
