I've decided we need to bite the bullet and paint a couple of walls in the bedroom. They are currently a very deep vivid purple, and i just know the pale shade of paint i want to use is going to need a zillion coats unless i do something!

I've been told about stuff you paint over in one coat, that will blank out the colour so you can use your chosen shade over the top. Does anyone know what the stuff is called so that i can get some? Thanks!

A good quality primer will take care of the problem for you. Here, in the U.S., my choice would be Zinsser brand, seen here:

If it's not available in the U.K., there should be an equivalent at your DIY store...

Best of luck!
