We are replacing the seal around our bath as the old silicone looks a mess and has gone black. thing is trying to get it off again, is there a trick to it other than spending the day carefully scraping it all off ?

dont know of any tricks--someone else might tho-use a good sharp stanley knife or one of those scrapers that have a stanley blade in them
it's not easy to find, but a silicon solvent should do the trick

somewhere like B&Q ? thing is its well stuck to the bath and I don't want to damage the bath as its enamell I think
any decent builder's suppliers, it's more of a specialised thing i'm sorry to say. not usually found in d-i-y places. other than that, looks like lots of very sharp blades and a take-away at the end of today :)
Meths loosens it and removes traces left behind
lighter fluid should do the trick!

Let us know how you got on - I have to do the same thing myself soon!
