my leather sofa smells "musty"!!

i bought a leather sofa from ebay as it looked gorgeous in the pics. however, it really smells "musty", as if it has been kept in a cellar or something. has anyone got any good tips? if not i will be throwing it out! help me please!! cheers peps x

If it's just the leather smelling you will need an enzyme cleaner for leather such as Em Clean to kill the mould spores which are causing the smell. If there are zip fastenings on the cushions check that it's not the fillings, if it is they will need replacing which could be quite expensive but not as dear as a new sofa.

I was just about to post a question about a smelly leather jacket my other half decided to buy at a motorbike show recently, it's stinking my spare room out ! I'll try your idea on that 'moonshadow' . we8scousers-you could also try a leather upholstry cleaner afterwards to get a perfumey smell on your sofa.

cheers moon! great answer. ive been on ebay & the em cleaner is only �12.00 ! you pooor thing! i bet you could kill your husband, bringing that jacket home. leather smells horrible when its mouldy, cheers for the advice on the leather cleaner but, i tried that & the perfume carried the smell all over the house!! my sister said to try orange oil but i dont know whether it would wreck the leather! cheers all xx

Im sure as soon as ur whippet has sat on ur couch, it will smell like what u r accustomed 2, chuck a few pies down the back of it, and it will b like new 2 u.
