Removing wood chip paper

Anyone got any tips for removing wood chip paper, I think mine has been cemented to the wall.

if you put it on yourself it serves you right.

If its been painted you need to break the surface by sanding.Then when you wet it the water can soak in.
Messy but worth it.
Woodchip should be banned !!!

No I didn't put it up myself No,Knowledge I really can't bare the stuff, I agree with samuelcat, woodchip should be banned!

Score it and use a steamer.

I moved into a terraced house which was totally woodchipped and painted. Score the woodchip with a stanley knife and buy/hire a steam stripper.
I held a stripping party, supplied a barrel of beer and a few bottles.....about 15 guests stripped the whole house in one night.....

I used this system and it worked. I had previously used a steam stripper and hated it.Would certainly use wallwik again.

Hi, before you go out and get a steamer why not try this simple method first. Score the paper well, then get some warm water and put bit of washing up liquid in it. Use a big brush or roller and paint the walls with it. It may need doing a few times but it doesn't take long to do. The washing up liquid stops it drying out too fast and usually the paper comes off fairly easily. It's worth a try and won't be as messy as a steamer. Also before you start taking the paper off the walls put some paper on the floor so that the wallpaper falls on to it. Then it is just a simple case of rolling that up afterwards and throwing away.

THESHEDMAN has given a good answer and does work. I've also used a weak solution of wallpaper paste to apply to the scored woodchip paper. The solution sticks to the surface allowing absorbtion rather than just running off if you use plain water. Forget the steamer, especially if your walls are old - they tend to loosen the plaster.
